Information / Scholarship Opportunities
Senior College Days
- Seniors may take a maximum of 2 College Days to visit prospective
colleges. Forms may be obtained
from Mrs. Conyers in guidance. The following steps must be
completed for each college day:
- Students must call the Admissions Office at the college and make an
appointment.
- Students must turn in the following completed forms to Mrs. Conyers in
guidance:
a. Parent Permission form
b. College Day Worksheet [Teachers must sign this sheet, listing
assignments for that day.]
- The paperwork must be completed and turned in to Mrs. Conyers at
least five school days in advance. College days will be coded as
‘Educational’ and won’t be counted against your maximum number of absences
as long as the paperwork is completed correctly.
- Students must turn in the College Day Confirmation form to Mrs. Bell in
attendance upon returning to school. Otherwise, the day will be unexcused.
Absences
- WATCH your ABSENCES -- a maximum of five days for 1 credit courses &
only 3 each for Government & Economics.
- You’ll receive "FA" (Failure due to Absences) & a grade of ‘62’ for
classes with excessive absences.

Clemson University – requirements for 2006
- Beginning with the freshman class of 2006, Clemson University will
require the writing section of the SAT or ACT for all applicants. Students
will be able to submit scores from earlier versions of the tests, but a
writing score from the new version must be provided for the student to
receive consideration for admission. They will continue to take the best
critical reading (or verbal), math and writing scores from multiple exams.

CSRA College Night
- College representatives from over 150 Science, Engineering & Liberal
Arts institutions will be there. Local southeastern schools, as well as
schools from across the nation, will be there.
- Financial aid seminars will be presented throughout the evening and
there will be scholarship drawings.
- Held on September 15, 2005 from 5:00 to 8:30 PM at the Augusta-Richmond
County Civic Center.
- Student must register in person at CSRA College Night
- Student must graduate from high school with a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Scholarship recipients must attend either a regionally accredited 4-year
college/university or a CSRA based junior college that is accredited.
- Only one entry per student is allowed.

Winthrop University – fee waivers
- Please see Mrs. Minick if you are seriously interested in applying to
Winthrop University. She has a few fee waivers.
Common Online College Application
- Check out the Common App Online (
www.commonapp.org),
a web-based program where students with Internet access prepare their
applications via a private account and submit them electronically to member
colleges.
Check the list to see if the college in which you are interested is
listed before filling out application.
A few paper applications are also available in guidance (magazine rack).
The E.B. Kennedy Scholarship Program
- Saluda High School is seeking potential nominees for two full merit
scholarships to study at Erskine College in 2006-07. If you are interested
and meet the following requirements, please let Mrs. Ouzts know ASAP.
Although the nomination must be postmarked by 10/15/05, there is a good deal
of paperwork. The criteria for selection are Christian commitment,
leadership potential, vigorous outlook, and scholastic achievement
(generally in top 10% of graduating class, minimum 3.5 GPA and/or SAT total
around 1180 for old scoring (1650 using new scoring) or better.
United States Air Force Academy
- Sean M. Bradford (803-957-6157) is available to answer any questions you
may have regarding admission requirements and life at the Air Force Academy.

Piedmont Technical College – Nursing/Health Science Program
- A flyer with general information on getting started is available in
guidance (magazine rack).
Columbia College
- As a former graduate of this college, Mrs. Perry can approve fee waivers
for seriously interested seniors. There are no separate waiver forms.
- To find out information about the college or to register for open house,
visit their website at

SAT Test fee waivers are available
- Must demonstrate economic need (receive free or reduced lunch).
- Students may register on-line or by mail.

SAT College Application fee waivers are available
- Only those students who have used fee waivers and who plan to
enter college by fall 2006 are eligible to receive a total of four ‘Request
for Waiver of College Application Fee’ forms.
- Must apply to a college that has agreed to consider waiving their
application fee for students who have used SAT Program test fee waivers.

ACT Test fee waivers are available
- Must demonstrate economic need (receive free or reduced lunch).
- This form cannot be used to register online or by
telephone.

ACT College Application fee waivers are available
- Only those students who qualify for fee waivers and who plan to enter
college by fall 2006 are eligible to receive ‘Waiver of College Application
Fee’ forms.

Coca-Cola Scholars Program
- Any senior may apply.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA at end of junior year.
- Must plan to pursue a degree at any U.S. accredited college or
university.
- You must apply online between September 1 and October 31 at
www.coca-colascholars.org .
2006 SAE Engineering Scholarships
- You must intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science.
- Some scholarships are university specific and some are undesignated.
- Applications are available on their website at
www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm .
Applications must be postmarked by December 1.
Lander University
- I have some college fee waivers for applying to Lander on a first come,
first served basis.
- Serious inquiries only.
Technician Training
- NTI (Nascar Technical Institute), MMI (Marine Mechanics Institute, MMI
(Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, & UTI (Universal Technical Institute).

Each high school may select up to three graduating seniors to receive a
$1,000 Imagine America Scholarship. Suggested selection guidelines
are likelihood of successful completion of postsecondary education; high
school GPA of 2.5 or better; financial need; and demonstrated voluntary
community service during senior year.
Students must apply to the school and then initiate the scholarship.
You may apply for the scholarship online by going to
www.imagine-america.org , click on ‘How To Apply’
on the left side, and then follow the directions. The counselor will then
receive notification by the school that the student has completed his/her
part.
Applications (first come, first served basis) will be considered until
all three scholarships have been awarded to qualified candidates.
You cannot apply for the Imagine America Scholarship until
November 1.
Francis Marion University
- Francis Marion now has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Call the Admission Office at 1-843-661-1231 or 1-800-368-7551 to make
reservations to attend Open House. They have scheduled four of them on
Saturday.
- Campus tours are given Monday through Friday and on select Saturdays by
appointment.
McCravy and Newlon Law Firm Scholarship
- This is a new scholarship.
- You do not necessarily have to be interested in law school.
- Applications are available in guidance (magazine rack).
- Applications must be received no later then September 30, 2005.
